Great Violence (4:18) explores the idea that someone can only understand your trauma, and by extension, you, If they have experienced something close to it themselves. This is both isolating and unifying, depending on who you are talking to.
lyrics
Please remember
I know, I know, I know
Be kind to each other
I know, I know, I know
There are so few
Who lead by their example
I won’t forget you
How you chose to be gentle
It ain’t mercy unless you’ve known great violence
Ones who hear me, have known great violence
Sure as my life
No I know, I know
Sometimes my mind
Is the devil at my door
If you’re at the table
While I’m down at the floor
How can you expect me
To shoulder half your load
Show me mercy
Have you known great violence?
Only hear me
If you’ve known great violence
Try to remember
I know, I know, I know
